À Bukavu, une cinquantaine de journalistes ont pris part à un café de presse axé sur la prévention du suicide et la santé mentale, organisé par l’association Stop Suicide RDC en marge de la Journée mondiale de la prévention du suicide.
Le métier de journaliste est souvent perçu comme un vecteur d’information, mais rarement comme une profession exposée à une forte pression psychologique. Consciente de cette réalité, l’association Stop Suicide RDC a réuni, ce mercredi 10 septembre 2025 à Bukavu, des journalistes issus de différents médias de la ville et de la province du Sud-Kivu. L’objectif : sensibiliser ces professionnels sur l’importance de la santé mentale dans l’exercice de leur métier et sur les moyens de prévenir le suicide.
Durant ce café de presse, plusieurs intervenants se sont succédé pour partager leurs expériences et expertises. Madame Lumière Syngay, experte en santé mentale et présidente provinciale de Stop Suicide RDC, a particulièrement insisté sur l’écoute active, la détection des signaux faibles chez les collègues et la création d’espaces de parole au sein des rédactions. Selon elle, « les journalistes, confrontés à la pression du terrain et à un manque d’accompagnement psychologique, peuvent développer une grande vulnérabilité psychologique ».
L’initiative s’inscrit dans une série d’actions menées par Stop Suicide RDC afin de toucher différentes couches sociales. Cette fois, le focus a été mis sur les journalistes, une catégorie professionnelle souvent en première ligne face aux drames, conflits et traumatismes, mais rarement accompagnée psychologiquement.
En plaçant la santé mentale au cœur du débat, Stop Suicide RDC rappelle que le bien-être psychologique n’est pas un luxe mais une nécessité pour les journalistes. Ces derniers, garants de l’information, doivent aussi être protégés pour mieux remplir leur mission. L’association promet de poursuivre ses campagnes afin de faire de la prévention du suicide une cause collective et partagée.
